The February Good Catch Award goes to Mike Lunn’s crew in Oklahoma. While replacing a 100-amp breaker with a 60-amp breaker in a new AC panel shipped directly from the factory, the crew noticed a serious issue: a bolt for the bus was completely unattached and loose between the breaker and bus phases. Had the crew not been performing this replacement, this hazard might have gone undetected. Their attention to detail prompted them to inspect all the bolts in the cabinet, ensuring there were no other loose connections. If this issue had gone unnoticed, the panel would have been energized with a bolt making contact between two phases, which could have resulted in an arc flash and caused significant damage to customer equipment and facilities.
