HERNANDO DE SOTO BRIDGE LED LIGHTING
Hernando De Soto Bridge
over I40 between W. Memphis, AR & Memphis, TN
2019 Excellence in Construction Award Project.
The project generally consists of the design, engineering, supply and installation of certain Philips Color Kinetics LED lighting Equipment (including jelly jar, truss, and cable lighting) on the Hernando De Soto Bridge. The equipment will replace existing decorative lighting fixtures currently installed on the Bridge.
The project included the installation and commissioning of the lighting equipment. The equipment consists primarily of three lighting "types": jelly jars, truss, and cable lighting. The complete installation service included power, brackets, cabinets, conduit, wires, circuit breakers, cable, network hardware, mounting hardware, 120V power network switches, transformers, utility connection, and telephone cable connection to the main control cabinet, safety and traffic control.
The equipment will replace the existing 200 necklace light fixtures, also referred to as jelly jar lights, with groups of ColorGraze MX4 fixtures. In order to replicate the look of the existing jelly jar fixture, six 1 • ColorGraze MX4 fixtures with a custom wide beam angle were installed in a ring to allow 360 degree viewing. All equipment fixtures will use a combination of red, green, blue, and amber LEDs to achieve a warm amber light that will replicate the existing fixtures, but also create static and dynamic color shows for special events and holidays.
Koontz Electric Company, Inc (KECI) installed new IColor Flex LMX Gen2 (cable lighting) and attached them to the suspension cables of the bridge. KECI installed new the ColorReach Compact Powercore, Gen2, & RGBW (truss lighting).
KECI installed the lighting control network that utilized a fiber-optic backbone. Ethernet switches distributes lighting information to Data Enabler Pro devices that merge line voltage with lighting control data and deliver power and data to the fixtures over a single standard cable.
This project completed on time and under budget.
