Koontz Electric Company, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of its work constructing a new Central Standby Generator Plant at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in Memphis, Tennessee. To commemorate this milestone and support the mission of St. Jude, Koontz Electric will make a $20,000 donation to the organization.
The new Central Standby Generator Plant will provide critical backup power capabilities to support the continuity of lifesaving operations at St. Jude. Reliable emergency power is essential to ensuring uninterrupted patient care, research activities, and critical hospital systems during unexpected outages. Koontz Electric’s team was responsible for installing and terminating medium-voltage (MV) cable connecting four 2.5-megawatt emergency generators to the hospital’s emergency power generation switchgear. These MV circuits will distribute reliable backup power to key systems across the campus, reinforcing the importance of safety and reliability within a facility dedicated to caring for children and families.
For the Koontz Electric team, this project became more than a construction assignment; it became a personal connection to the people and purpose behind the work.
While working on the St. Jude campus, Koontz Electric Company supervisor Sergio formed a special appreciation for the organization’s mission. Seeing firsthand the environment where patients receive care and researchers pursue lifesaving discoveries reinforced the importance of the work being completed.
That experience became a meaningful reminder to Sergio and the entire Koontz Electric team that the work being completed each day was ultimately about supporting the children and families who depend on the St. Jude mission.
Reflecting on the experience, Sergio shared:
“I came to this country from Mexico when I was 12 years old. I learned the value of hard work, kindness, and never forgetting where you come from. Being on the St. Jude campus and seeing firsthand the impact of the work taking place there made me realize I was part of something so much bigger than myself. Every day, I saw the hope that St. Jude brings to children and families facing unimaginable challenges. We may have been there to build a project, but every day on campus served as a reminder that we’re really here to build hope.”
The experience reinforced what made the project so meaningful for the Koontz Electric team — knowing that their work helps support a place where children receive world-class care, families find hope and groundbreaking research changes lives.
“Koontz Electric is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project that supports the commitment of St. Jude to advancing cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. This project reminded us that the work we do extends far beyond construction. We are honored to support an organization whose impact reaches children and families around the world, and we hope this donation helps further the incredible mission of St. Jude,” said Dean Hoover, President/CEO.
The company’s $20,000 donation reflects its commitment to supporting organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families while helping ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live.
