This project was a design-build project.  Koontz Electric was responsible for detailed design, procurement and installation of equipment.  The powerhouse is undergoing a major rehabilitation project that has included mechanical work, new turbines and rewinds, all of which are complete.  The current major rehab activities center on electrical distribution, switch gear, and control systems.  Specifically, the project included modifying the existing switchyard and building a new 230/115/15kV switchyard with new transformers, breakers and disconnect switches.
The new 230/115kV switchyar was constructed on site adjacent to the existing switchyard.  The new 230/115kV switchyard design was incorporate the requirements of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the design standards of Western Area Power Administration (WAPA).  The layout of the new 230/115kV switchyard was similar to that of the existing switchyard, except it is slightly rotated to be perpendicular to the existing incoming 230kV transmission lines.  The 230kV side of the new switchyard was designed to accommodate future 230kV yard expansion.  In addition to the new switchyard, unit breakers were utilized in the existing switchyard to connect the new switchyard to the existing generator transformer feeds.  All other equipment in the existing switchyard was removed.
